72 Lower Baggot Street renovation

No. 72 Baggot Street Lower was constructed as a large and prestigious structure amongst its peers in the mid-19th century. Despite unsympathetic alterations and interventions associated with mixed-use in the 20th century, the building has maintained its overall integrity in one of Dublin's finest neighbourhoods.
Mesh Architects are engaged to a significantly improve the building's use as a single family residence once again, which is the building's best chance at continued survival, repair and maintenance. To facilitate this new direction, a limited number of alterations are required to update and upgrade the home for modern use, including minimal demolition and some alteration of internal fabric to facilitate a free-flowing and interrelated plan.
Internally, all alterations are considered minimal and have been located largely to the rear of the structure in rooms of lesser architectural importance, and/or have been concentrated so as to avoid wholesale alterations throughout the building. The introduction of a dumb waiter in particular would constitute a significant improvement in the overall amenity and enjoyment of the building with minimal loss of non-significant historic fabric.
All of the new interior colour scheme and new fitted kitchen compliments and highlight the importance of dwellings existing architectural features ensuring the continued survival of this protected structure.
